International Women’s Volleyball Tourney begins

HÀ NỘI — The  一 三th International Women’s Volleyball Tournament, also known as VTV Cup  二0 一 六-Tôn Hoa Sen, will start in the northern province of Hà Nam from today.

Six teams will participate in the weeklong tournament: Indonesia, a Chinese youth-team, Japan’s Nagasaki, China’s Xuzhou Jiangsu, Thailand’s Chonburi and Việt Nam.

The teams will play in a round-robin format to select the four semi-finalists.

The event’s winner will receive a prize of US$ 一0,000. The runners-up will get $ 七,000 and $ 五,000, respectively.

Other individual prizes will be granted to the most valuable player, the most outstanding hitter, the best libero, and a special title for the tournament’s beauty queen.

Việt Nam have won the event four times, in  二00 七,  二00 九,  二0 一0 and  二0 一 四. Last year, U 二 三 Thailand were crowned champions after defeating Chinese Liaoning Brilliance Auto  三- 一 in the final. — VNS
